(ARCHIVE) Kromek appoints Sir Peter Williams to its Board as Non-Executive Director and Chairman-designate

– UK, Sedgefield – Kromek, a radiation detection technology company focusing on the medical, security and nuclear markets, announces that Sir Peter Williams CBE has been appointed as a Non-Executive Director of the Company with immediate effect and as the Chairman of the Board of Directors with effect from the conclusion of the Company’s Annual General Meeting (“AGM”) to be held in October 2015. Mr Lawrence Kinet, who has held the position of Interim Chairman since 17 April 2015, will resume his role as Non-Executive Director of the Company.

Sir Peter Williams, aged 70, has extensive experience in science and engineering in both commercial and academic environments. He is currently Chairman of the Daiwa Anglo Japanese Foundation, a UK-based charity to support closer links between Britain and Japan, and performs advisory roles with technology companies such as Plessey Semiconductors Ltd. During his corporate career, he has held positions such as Chairman and Chief Executive of Oxford Instruments plc, senior independent non-executive director of GKN plc, non-executive director of W.S. Atkins plc and Deputy Chief Executive of VG Instruments Ltd. Other roles have included Chairman of the National Physical Laboratory, Honorary Treasurer and Vice President of the Royal Society and Chairman of the Engineering & Technology Board.

He has advised the UK Government on issues of science and education, including conducting the ‘Williams Review’ of primary mathematics in 2008 and in 2010, and was a member of the international review of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) for the UN Secretary General. Sir Peter Williams was also a member of the science advisory board for the Prime Minister of Malaysia. He was knighted in 1998 and is a Fellow of the Royal Society and of the Royal Academy of Engineering.

Lawrence Kinet, Non-Executive Interim Chairman, said: “I am honoured to welcome Sir Peter Williams to the Board of Kromek. Over the last six months, we have appointed a new broker, achieved progress in our new commercial markets and completed a successful fundraising, which is supported by our revolving credit facility with HSBC. As a result, the Company is now in a stronger financial position, and we look forward to leveraging Sir Peter Williams’ tremendous expertise and experience as we advance to the next stage of our development.”

Sir Peter Williams, Non-Executive Director and Chairman Designate, added: “I am pleased to be joining Kromek at this exciting juncture. I feel I can contribute a great deal based on my significant sector experience and, in particular, my time at Oxford Instruments. I am impressed by the management team and the scale of the Company’s operations. Kromek is at the leading-edge in developing radiation detection solutions at a price point that is commercially viable – which has hitherto been a challenge with uptake of CZT-based sensors. I look forward to working with the management team and my fellow members of the Board to deliver further progress and shareholder value.”

The Company will issue a notice of AGM in due course. In accordance with Kromek’s articles of association, Sir Peter Williams will be offered for re-election at the AGM: subject to the approval of the resolution, he will assume the role of Chairman from the conclusion of the meeting.
