Accolade appoints Mark Mactas and Sheila Burke to its Board of Directors

– USA, PA – Accolade, Inc. today announced the appointment of two industry leaders to its Board of Directors: Mark V. Mactas and Sheila P. Burke, RN, MPA, FAAN. Mr. Mactas was deputy chairman, president and chief operating officer of Towers Watson until his retirement in October 2011. Ms. Burke was chief of staff to Senator Bob Dole from 1986 to 1996, and has been a member of the Medicare Payment Advisory Commission and the Board of Trustees of the Kaiser Family Foundation. Both Mr. Mactas and Ms. Burke share a passion for human interest issues related to healthcare, which they pursue in leadership roles for various organizations and nonprofits.

Sheila P. Burke, is a faculty research fellow at the Malcolm Wiener Center for Social Policy and a member of the faculty at the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. She is also a strategic advisor and chair of the Government Relations and Public Policy Group at Baker, Donelson, Bearman, Caldwell & Berkowitz. She has been a member of the Medicare Payment Advisory Commission and the Board of Trustees of the Kaiser Family Foundation, serving as chair of the board from 2005 to 2008. Ms. Burke was chief of staff to Senator Bob Dole, from 1986 to 1996, when he was Senate Minority and then the Majority Leader. In 1995, she was elected as Secretary of the Senate, the chief administrative officer of the U.S. Senate. She has also served as deputy secretary and chief operating officer of the Smithsonian Institution’s American Museums and National Programs, and executive dean and lecturer in public policy at the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University.

Ms. Burke sits on several boards, including The Chubb Corporation, The Commonwealth Fund, The Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences, Ascension Health, Next Generation, and Bipartisan Policy Center. She is also a member of the Kaiser Commission on Medicaid and the Uninsured and is on the Board of Visitors of Georgetown University’s School of Nursing and Health Studies. She was elected to membership in the Institute of Medicine, National Academy of Sciences, National Academy of Public Administration and the American Academy of Nursing.

Mark V. Mactas was most recently deputy chairman, president and chief operating officer for Towers Watson until his retirement in 2011. He was formerly chairman and chief executive officer of Towers Perrin (before it merged with Watson Wyatt) from 2001 to 2009. With 14,000 associates around the world, Towers Watson offers professional services in benefits, talent management, rewards, and risk and capital management.

Mr. Mactas is currently vice chairman of the board of Save the Children, where he has been a trustee since 2006. Since 2011, he has served on the Board of Trustees and Executive Committee of Lehigh University. In 2013, he joined the Envision Healthcare board, which offers an array of healthcare-related services to consumers, hospitals, healthcare systems, health plans and local, state and national government entities. He also was president of the Conference of Consulting Actuaries and served on its board as well as that of the American Academy of Actuaries.

Ms. Burke and Mr. Mactus join eight other distinguished leaders on the Accolade Board of Directors: Edgar Bronfman, Jr., a managing partner at Accretive, LLC and former chairman and chief executive officer of Warner Music Group; J. Michael Cline, founding partner of Accretive, LLC; Bill Frist, MD, former U.S. Senate Majority Leader and, currently, distinguished professor of business and medicine at Vanderbilt University; Jim Madden, co-founder and managing director of Carrick Capital Partners; Tom Neff, chairman of Spencer Stuart, US; John Rowe, MD, professor of health policy management at the Mailman School of Public Health at Columbia University and former chairman and chief executive officer of Aetna, Inc.; Tom Spann, chief executive officer of Accolade; and, Michael Yang, managing director of Comcast Ventures.
